Incontinence and Aging

Some people face such health problems, the conversation about which causes a person to feel constrained. Among such disorders, there are those that do not allow a person to be in the community and the usual appearance in public places can cause the patient to feel anxiety and fear. One such disorder is the incontinence of gases and feces, or anal incontinence. If a person encounters such diseases, they cause a lot of problems and constraints in everyday life, they limit the range of usual activities.

Forms and varieties of anal incontinence
Anal incontinence develops in a person when he loses the ability to control the operation of the anal sphincter. This process, according to the degree of attenuation, goes through three stages: loss of control over the process of gas separation, inability to contain gases and liquid stool, incontinence of gases, and liquid and solid fecal masses is the last, most severe form of loss of control over the sphincter. During the process itself, the patient can both sense and not feel the passage of stool. The average form of the disease is accompanied by urge to defecate, but a person can not take this process under control and he has a leakage of stool.

When the disease becomes more severe, defecation occurs spontaneously, and the process itself may even go unnoticed for the patient.

It should be noted that inability to control the work of the sphincter is the norm for infants. But the child must learn to control this process before the age of three. If an adult is faced with this disease, then it becomes a serious problem. Most often, anal incontinence overtakes a person in old age, although sometimes younger people also face it.

Causes of anal incontinence
Anal incontinence can develop in humans for a variety of reasons: both as a result of anatomical features and as a result of a physiological disorder. Among the reasons for the inoperability of the sphincter of the anus are:

anatomical problems such as fistulas and cracks in the anus; Problems with defecation

organic causes, for example, postpartum or postoperative trauma, damage to the spinal cord or brain;

psychogenic factors: hysteria, psychosis, neuroses.

To the anal incontinence can result in a variety of diseases: epilepsy, dementia, catatonic syndrome, manic-depressive syndrome and others.

Treatment of anal incontinence
In order for the treatment of anal incontinence to be effective, it is necessary to establish precisely the cause that led to the onset of this disease. Also, the doctor should know how much the control of the anal sphincter has lost.

As a therapy for the treatment of anal incontinence, it is customary to use:

diet;

therapeutic gymnastics, water procedures;

surgical intervention.

Sometimes it happens that the leakage of feces occurs only during diarrhea. In these cases, the main treatment is dietary nutrition, which contributes to the normalization of the stool. From the diet of the patient, the doctor removes foods that can provoke diarrhea. In this case, the disease itself goes along with diarrhea.

Medical gymnastics is also very important moment of treatment, because it allows to strengthen precisely those muscles with which the patient can control the work of the sphincter. There are many methods of therapeutic gymnastics aimed specifically at fighting this disease. For example, you can just squeeze and unclench the sphincter just the right amount of times a day. Another option to restore the work of the sphincter is the impact on it by special current pulses.

In cases where the above methods do not give positive results, doctors recommend surgical intervention to the patient. The aim of the operation is to cover the non-functioning sphincter. The nature of the operation depends on the severity of the disease and on what deformation of which parts of the muscular structure of the sphincter occurred. Thus, the doctor during the operation forms the correct shape of the anal canal.
